Numbers are out for August – New Jersey sports betting update

September 12, 2019

The revenue numbers for online sports betting in New Jersey are out for August and they are interesting. Why? Because someone is fighting back.

Who is the winner of August?

DraftKings!!! Coming from depressing numbers in July they made quite a comeback and took back most of their market share loss from June to July. Back at the mid 30% numbers, things are back to normal for DraftKings. Can they keep up the trend in September moving in with great momentum to the NFL season…and break the 40% market share level. Will be tough but they have the potential.

So if DrafKings were the winners of August who were the losers?

FanDuel is one of them but they are still showing a very strong trend. Just dropping under 50% market share is still not bad and they are not showing any signs of slowing down in revenue growth. August was actually a record-breaking month in terms of revenue for FanDuels.

The Biggest loser of August 2019 was….

Monmouth with SugarHouse and William Hill. They were absolutely crushed in August. While the total market grew in revenues with close to 40% from July to August these guys dropped around 16% in revenue throughout the same period. Their market share drop from July to August was 39%!!!

Let’s not pull too large gears yet but moving into the NFL season with such a bad momentum is not fun for anyone.

The rest

No big movement for the other operators. Maybe worth mentioning is Hard Rock who should see a boost in their numbers for September with Unibet launching their sportsbook product a few days into the month of September. Hard Rock actually tripled their market share from 0,2% to 0,6% but still on very small levels so it is difficult to draw any conclusion from that as of yet.
