NFL Week 6 Review

October 20, 2020

I am frustrated with the slight losing NFL week 6, as I feel more settled and comfortable on this unique NFL season, but did not get the results to show for it. Let’s run through our plays.

❌ Loss – Vikings -4
I feel the only way the Vikings were to blow this gimmie game against the Falcons was with turnovers and falling behind early. Welp. Kirk Cousins threw three first half interceptions and by the time they settled into the game flow, they found themselves behind 23-0. The 40-23 final showed a second half more reflective of what the game should have been, but there was so much damage done in the first half, there was no coming back.

βœ… Win – Titans -3
The Titans lead for the majority of this game, but certainly gave us a helluva sweat late. They actually blew the lead late in regulation and had to engineer a touchdown drive to force the game to overtime. That is where the sweat ended as the Titans rolled in overtime, getting a touchdown for the win and cover.

βœ… Win – Steelers -3
The first quarter was of the utmost importance for the Browns if they were to make this game close, and when they trailed 10-0, it was essentially over. The Browns are a team with a very beatable secondary that does not match up well a pass catching corps like that of the Steelers and when they cannot play some level of ball control, they will struggle. That was certainly the case here as the 38-7 Steeler win was a cinch cover.

❌ Loss – Dolphins/Jets Over 47
In hindsight and as indicated in the write up, I thought the Dolphins would outclass the Jets, but was worried about the back door cover on a large line. As it played out, the Dolphins won 24-0, but Fitzpatrick was far from perfect. He threw two picks and left a good deal of points out there, and the team agreed. They named Tua Tagovailoa the starter on Tuesday after they come out of their bye week. The Jets offense was simply unable to capitalize, as they were obviously shut out. The over was the loss, but the error on my part was not additionally adding the Dolphins as a play.

❌ Loss – Cardinals/Cowboys Over 55.5
This was essentially a higher level version of the Dolphins game. The Cardinals offense did precisely as expected, scoring 38 points. The problem was, both Andy Dalton and Zeke Elliott were so bad, the Cowboys could only muster 10 points. We will continue to see the Cowboys allow points in this neighborhood, now we need to stay tuned to see if the offense can keep up with Dalton. I lean toward this game being a one off for the offense as we look back at the season in the future.

The 2-3 week brings us to 10-19 on the season.

Our props went 6-7 on the week, with Mark Andrews and Zeke Elliott each contributing two of those losses. With this being the first week for props, we sit at 6-7 for the season.
