✅ Roosevelt Roberts is a well rounded fighter that brought himself some hype after winning five of his first six UFC fights. He then got a jump in competition and was beaten by Jim Miller and then by Kevin Croom. This two fight losing streak has brought a drop off in competition and gets a favorable matchup here. Roberts is a sound enough striker and will keep this fight quite competitive on the feet. It is not an area I would call an advantage in this matchup, but if we get a 15 minute kickboxing fight, the fight is a coin flip. Of course we won’t have 15 minutes of kickboxing and Roberts has a fairly easy path to winning this fight through wrestling and grappling. He will not have the most difficult time getting this fight down and should have an easy time earning rounds via top control. His opponent is simply a fighter that will accept the position on the floor.
✅ Ignacio Bahamondes is a striker that does not have the complete game needed for true advancement at this level of MMA. His biggest weakness is accepting position on the mat and trying to strike from his back. If we’ve seen it once, we’ve seen it a million times, striking from guard is a very easy way to lose a decision. Bahamondes has also been submitted twice in his career, and that is truly in play here. If he is able to keep the fight standing throughout, he will be live for a win, but that is a highly unlikely scenario as Roberts is the superior wrestler. Bahamondes is most likely in for a frustrating decision loss as where the fight takes place is dictated to him.
