The Baltimore Orioles announced a partnership with a sportsbook brand, SuperBook Sports, to establish sports betting at Camden Yards. Moreover, it will also provide sports betting activities in Orioles’ home ground, Oriole Park.

The announcement was made on Wednesday as the Orioles’ management wrapped up the deal with the operator. It was reported that the sports betting establishment will be live for the 2023 MLB season.

Orioles senior vice president and chief revenue officer T.J. Brightman released further information written in a press release on behalf of the Orioles.

“The Orioles are thrilled to partner with SuperBook to enhance our gameday experience with the introduction of their first-ever on-premise sports lounge," the statement reads.

"While our organization is striving to build the next World Series contender in Charm City, we are constantly exploring unique opportunities to engage with Birdland’s diverse fanbase and welcome new visitors to downtown Baltimore. The addition of a SuperBook sportsbook only reinforces our iconic ballpark’s standing as one of the premier entertainment destinations in the region.”

According to sources, the press release described the Orioles' partnership with SuperBook Sports as "long-term," though no complete terms of the agreement were outlined in the press release.

Based on the agreement, there will be a sports betting lounge inside the place, including food and drinks plus seating for fans, who want to watch the games that they are wagering on.

Moreover, it was also mentioned that the sportsbook facilities will be located within the stadium complex, which will be announced in another press release by the Orioles and sportsbook soon.

In terms of the mutual agreement, it is reported that the Orioles will need to include sportsbook promotion material as a partnership. For instance, the SuperBook brand will be advertised around the court, which will likely be located on the center field scoreboard and home plate signage.

The brand will also be advertised in the MLB Ballpark application and on social media.

Sports betting authorization

Nevertheless, according to sources, the partnership proposal is still subject to regulatory approval from the Maryland Lottery Gaming & Control Commission, which has been tasked to be in charge of the state’s legal sports betting industry.

For the record, Maryland voters approved to sports betting allowance within the state in November 2021, but the authorization must be approved by Maryland legislative committee due to existing regulations.

It is reported that the Sports Wagering and Application Review Commission (SWARC) is still waiting to review an analysis of the sports wagering industry before approving the sports betting legalization.

Furthermore, when the regulations are approved, there will be another 45-day for the license application to take place and will be revised for another 45 days.

According to reports, the legalization process will be heavily dependent on the applicants, whether Orioles or SuperBook, and if the applications exceed expectations, there will likely be a good chance to speed up the review process.

Jim Nielsen, chief operating officer of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, recently said that he hopes mobile sports betting will be available in February 2023, but he did not specify a launch date.
