Open Championship

July 17, 2021

Who will rise to the top this weekend?

We enter the weekend at Royal St George, and will crown another Major Winner at the conclusion of Sunday's round. We saw previous major squanderer Louis Oostheizen storm to the lead at -11 through two rounds. Despite not always following through on Major contention Oosthheizen is the betting favorite. He did hit the best golf shot I've ever seen at Augusta back in 2012. His approach shot on number two was absolutely a thing of beauty. He has also won the Open Championship in 2010, but has fallen short more times than he has followed through.

There is a truly better golfer in contention this year, and someone that has the opportunity to get a missed opportunity back in 2011. Dusin Johnson was poised for his first Open Championship victory at this same course back in 2011. He had a mind numbing double bogey at 14. He was chasing down the leader, Darren Clarke in that tournament, before one fatal miscue. He is again well within contention this year, and comes with a favorable +700 price tag while sitting in the top five.

No one in the world is competitive when Johnson is at the top of his game, and this is a value spot to bet on the elite and redemption as well. Take Johnson at +700 to win his first Open Championship on a course he has continued success.
