NFL Week 16 Review

December 22, 2019

The Good

The Saints and Titans participated in the expected shootout, scoring 64 and cruising past the total of 51

The Eagles +2.5 cruised to a 17-9 victory in a game that was not as close as the score suggests. The already short handed Eagles lost top pass catcher Zach Ertz for much of the first half and left some points out there, but still got the fairly easy win and seized control of their playoff fate atop the NFC East.

The Cardinals +9.5 dominated the Seahawks in a 27-13 win. Carroll and Schottenheimer fell back to their woeful coaching ways and this one wasn’t even close. The laughable multi score line for the Seahawks proved to be a gift once again.

The Chiefs -5.5 were absolutely dominant on both sides of the ball as they cruised to a 26-3 road win in Chicago. The Bears had no answers on offense and the Chiefs shifted to a mostly run heavy approach in the second half, which slowed their scoring pace. This one could have been even more lopsided had the Chiefs decided to or needed to keep their foot on the gas.

The Bad

The early turnovers from Jameis Winston that lead to 10 quick points for the Texans proved to be a detriment to the scoring total as the Texans just protected a lead and did not push the scoring pace. Because of this the over whiffed and the Texans were only able to muster a push.

The 49ers -6 only won by three points. They played poorly on defense in the first half and allowed this game to be closer than it should have been.

The Jaguars were only able to muster six points through three quarters and the 36 total points was more than a full score off of getting the over home.

The Panthers +7 lost top wide receiver DJ Moore to a concussion in the first quarter and this proved to be wholly detrimental. Rookie quarterback Will Grier threw three picks and the Colts scored twice on defense in a lopsided win. Missing Moore, no player besides McCaffrey eclipsed 33 yards from scrimmage.

Chargers gonna Charger. I am mad at myself for this play, as the Chargers -5.5 lost at home to a Raider team that lost at home to the Jaguars just a week earlier.

The Unfortunate

The Bills +6.5 lead 17-13 in the middle of the third quarter and looked to be en route to an outright win. They ultimately did not score again despite having opportunities and allowing a two point conversion attempt was the difference against the spread, as 24-17 final was a half point loss.

The Steelers -3 lost outright 16-10. On the surface it looks ugly but we knew Duck Hodges would get the hook if he played poorly early on. He did and was benched and Mason Rudolph came in and tied the game at half time. Rudolph proceeded to get injured, bringing Duck Hodges back in the game, resulting in no points for the Steelers in the entire second half.
