There is a common denominator with these two teams, and it is not one we want if scheduling ourselves to watch a game. That common denominator is one word – slow.

The Hornets have been the slowest team in the league in terms of possessions per game and expected possessions per game all season, and have actually noticeably gotten slower since the All Star Break.

The Heat are also in the bottom third of the league in pace overall and are among the five slowest teams in home games on the season. This total was always going to come out with a low figure but it came out high enough to attack the under.

It would be a surprise if the losing team in this game hit the century mark and it wouldn’t be a full shock if both teams failed to hit that century mark. All three of the Hornets non overtime road games since the All Star break have seen a final total under 200 and this will be the slowest paced one yet. We are attacking the under today but don’t schedule yourself to watch and sweat, that simply won’t be any fun.

The Hawks -4 gave us all the sweat we could handle on this one. The game was competitive throughout and even went into a pair of overtime periods, but they ultimately secured the win and cover with a 143-138 win.

The win brings us to 69-53 on the season.

We got a couple wins to close outlast week attacking the Hawks on their road back to back set, but that all flips when they get to return to the comfort of their home court. Trae Young has had a couple days to recover from the illness that affected him and he should be at or near full strength for this matchup. Despite the very real road struggles and the ugly record, the Hawks have been quite sound at home of late, winning 8 of their last 11 with all three of the losses being to current playoff teams.

The Hawks have lost three straight and are 4-5 since the all star break, but it should be noted they played by far the toughest strength of schedule in the league in that span and that aspect does soften for them. Their next three games are home games against Eastern Conference non playoff teams, starting with this one.

The Hornets remain an underwhelming team and bring a 12-20 road record with them into Atlanta. This 12-20 record is actually buoyed by some overachievement, as their expected win percentage rating would have them winning 3-4 fewer away games than they have. The Hornets snapped a three game losing streak at home against the Rockets on Saturday, as the Rockets forgot to show up and let the Hornets get out to a 20-0 lead, which they never recovered from. There won’t be such a spot available tonight for the Hornets and look for the Hawks to right the ship at home, where they have been quite tough of late.

We had the most kind strength of play and betting line available to us on Saturday, and neither the Grizzlies -5 nor the Hawks disappointed. The Grizzlies took a 21 point into the locker room and this one was never in doubt. The 118-101 final was more than plenty for a win and cover.

The win brings us to 68-53 on the season.
