Liberty Flames vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Betting Picks

The 9-1 Liberty Flames will meet up with the 11-0 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Saturday night in the Mortgage Cure Bowl at 7:30 PM ET in Camping World Stadium. The Chanticleers come in as seven-point favorites and we’re expecting plenty of points with a 59.5 over/under. Let’s dive into how this game will go and who will end up covering the spread. The Flames lost just one game this season and it was against the NC State Wolfpack. They didn’t face the toughest of opponents but did lose an opportunity to play against this CCU team late in the season. They’ll be looking to prove they can beat a quality team. Liberty is a well-balanced offense that’s run it for 500 yards more than they’ve passed it for. QB Malik Willis heads the attack as both the leading passer and rusher. He’s up to 2,900 combined yards with 30 touchdowns.

Joshua Mack is a solid running back and he splits time in the backfield with Peytton Pickett. The pair has combined for close to 1200 yards and 12 touchdowns. Mack is more the lightning to the thunder of Pickett. On the outside, D.J. Stubbs leads the team with 455 yards and three touchdowns. Kevin Shaa is the man in the RZ with four scores on just 22 total catches.

We know what the CCU Chanticleers are going to bring to the table. They’re undefeated on the season for a reason. They know their identity like the back of their hand and don’t turn the ball over. Defensively, they’re tough as nails and rarely shoot themselves in the foot. C.J. Marable is one of the best running backs in the entire country and he’s up to 844 yards on the ground with 12 touchdowns. You can count on Marable running it for 100 yards, at the very least.

QB Grayson McCall has been superb this year and far better than anyone expected. He’s up to 2,170 passing yards and 23 touchdowns with another 474 rushing yards and six scores. This offense is a powerhouse when they don’t turn the ball over. Coastal Carolina only seems to struggle when they are unable to run the ball, which doesn’t happen all that often.

I don’t have a strong lean on either side of this game, but would side with the Liberty Flames if forced to pick. Coastal Carolina is the better-coached team, but Liberty is a bit more talented and they seem to have a lot more to play for. Coastal Carolina has already won every game this year and they were gifted with the Cure Bowl. I am a massive fan of this Liberty offense and I expect them to stick with Coastal Carolina down to the wire. Give me Liberty in this game, but let’s move to my most confident bet in this game with the total.

Both of these teams are going to come out sluggish and the under is the only bet to make in this game. It’s easily my favorite bet as this number is five to seven points too high. Both offenses will want to establish the run early and neither will look to throw the ball downfield. On the Liberty side, they must do everything in their advantage to establish the run. For CCU, they always want to run the ball and they will refuse to go away from the script.
