Kathy Hochul Overtakes Letitia James as Favorite to Be 2022 New York Democratic Governor Nominee

New York Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul is now the favorite to be the Democratic nominee in the 2022 New York Gubernatorial Election, according to betting industry analysts at USsportsbonus.com (See Disclaimer Below). Hochul’s odds improved from 317/100 (24% implied probability) to 39/25 (39%) since Wednesday, overtaking New York Attorney General Letitia James, who worsened from 127/100 (44%) to 97/50 (34%) in that time.
“Soon after announcing the conclusion of the investigation into Andrew Cuomo, Letitia James became the bookies’ pick to be the Democratic nominee in the upcoming election,” says US Sportsbonus gambling industry analyst Jay Sanin. “However, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul has now overtaken James as the favorite, while other notable candidates are much further out at this point.”
New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams has 1011/100 odds to be the Democratic nominee (9% implied probability) in 2022. New York State Senator Alessandra Biaggi and US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who are 1567/100 (6%) and 3233/100 (3%), respectively, actually have worse odds than Cuomo himself, who’s still sitting at 1329/100 (7%).
Cuomo’s odds of remaining in office by the end of 2021 have worsened significantly this week. On Monday, Cuomo had 3/25 odds to remain in office at year’s end (89% implied probability), but they have since worsened to 257/100 (28%).
“While it’s looking increasingly likely that Cuomo doesn’t make it through the year as New York’s Governor, oddsmakers are split on how he’ll be removed,” says US Sportsbonus gambling industry analyst Jay Sanin. “At this point, his 49/20 odds of resigning are slightly stronger than his 257/100 odds of being impeached.”
