Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. Troy Trojans Betting Picks

The 10-0 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will go on the road Saturday afternoon to face off with the 5-5 Troy Trojans at 3:00 PM ET in Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Chanticleers come into this game as 13.5-point road favorites and we’re expecting a defensive battle with a 51.5 over/under. These teams face each other every year and the squads don’t like each other. Let’s dive into who will win this game and how it will go down. It seemed like all the hype was on BYU, but they weren’t the only team undefeated last week and the Chanticleers upset the Cougars as 10.5-point underdogs. They played immaculate defense and did just enough offensively to make it happen, winning 22-17 and moving to 10-0 on the season. This is a well-coached team that refuses to shoot themselves in the foot and never gives an inch on either side of the ball. QB Grayson McCall has been an excellent orchestrator of this offense, throwing it for 1,832 yards and 20 touchdowns with just one interception. He’s added another 433 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Senior HB C.J. Marable is the cornerstone of this offense and he’s up to 724 yards and 10 scores on the season. He’s spelled by Reese White, who’s averaged six yards per carry en route to 455 yards and six scores. On the outside, it’s Jaivon Heiligh who leads the way with 41 catches for 682 yards and eight touchdowns. Tight end Isaiah Likely isn’t far off with 451 yards and four scores. This offense is a well-oiled machine and they know how to win.

After losing three straight games, the Troy Trojans beat up on the very solid South Alabama Jaguars 29-0 in a game that was over before the conclusion of the first quarter. It’s been an up and down season for the Trojans, but the talent is there to compete if they can avoid beating themselves. QB Gunnar Watson is above average, completing 70% of his passes for 1,881 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

He has some elite weapons on the outside and it starts with Kaylon Geiger (55 rec, 649 yards, 3 TD). Reggie Todd (429 yards, 5 TD) and Khalil McClain (383 yards, 6 TD) are just as great, but are used more down the field. This is a talented offense, but the defense must step up and Watson can’t turn it over more than once.

The Chanticleers have to feel disrespected at this point. They beat up on the BYU Cougars a week ago, who entered with all the hype and a 10.5-point favorites. Coastal Carolina is the best coached team in the nation and every single player on this team is on the same page. Troy is undoubtedly talented, but they are nowhere near as disciplined and I expect the offense to sputter. If BYU couldn’t put up 20, I don’t see how Troy goes for more than 14.

This Chanticleers defense is elite and they would compete with any offense in the country. The top four + Florida might be the only five teams I would bet score 30+ against them. Troy exploded last week and that looked like 29 points against a bad defense. The Chanticleers will have their way offensively running the ball, but this isn’t a team that wants to score much anyway and the Trojans defense isn’t bad. This is going to be a slow and ugly game that Coastal Carolina wins comfortably.
