Oddsmakers Now Confident Andrew Cuomo Won’t be in Office by Year’s End

August 4, 2021

Andrew Cuomo’s odds of remaining in office as Governor of New York have worsened significantly overnight, according to betting industry analysts at USsportsbonus.com (See Disclaimer Below). Yesterday, Cuomo’s odds to be in office by the end of 2021 shifted from 3/25 (89% implied probability) to 69/100 (59%). They’ve since worsened to 257/100 (28%), suggesting it’s more likely than not that he’s out office by year’s end.

“Governors of nearby states, as well as President Joe Biden, called for Cuomo to resign, and the odds of this happening improved despite Cuomo’s hesitance to do so,” says US Sportsbonus gambling industry analyst Jay Sanin. “In fact, Cuomo’s odds of being impeached worsened while his odds of resigning improved, suggesting that resignation may now be the more likely outcome.”

The odds of Cuomo resigning by September 1 are now 67/20 (23% implied probability). This is a noticeable shift since yesterday, when his odds went from 49/1 (2%) to 307/50 (14%). His odds of being impeached shifted yesterday from 49/1 (2%) to 317/100 (24%), but they’ve since worsened to 21/4 (16%).

“As oddsmakers continue to lose confidence in Cuomo’s run for re-election in 2022, Attorney General Letitia James became an even stronger favorite to win the Democratic nomination,” says US Sportsbonus gambling industry analyst Jay Sanin. “She became the favorite quickly after the report findings were released, and her odds have continued to improve since.”

James’ odds to be the Democratic nominee in the 2022 New York Gubernatorial Election have improved from 203/100 (33% implied probability) to 127/100 (44%) since Monday. Cuomo’s odds have worsened from 36/25 (41%) to 9/1 (10%) in this time.
