DraftKings Offers $100K In Kentucky Derby Pool
April 28, 2021
The Kentucky Derby is the start of Triple Crown season, where a new crop of horses look to take the first step toward horse racing immortality. And while the horses make their run for the roses at Churchill Downs, horse racing fans can try and make a run for big prizes from DraftKings in their 2021 Kentucky Derby pool.
DraftKings Offers $100K Kentucky Derby Pool
The 2021 Kentucky Derby pool from DraftKings allows players the chance to win a portion of $100,000 in prizes for the first Triple Crown race of the year. To win, players have to make predictions related to the race, with the best sets of predictions winning the top prizes. The top prize for this pool is $5,000, with second and third place taking home a cool $1,000 as well.
Outside of the prize money up for grabs, the best part of this DraftKings pool is the fact that this pool is free to join. With no entry fees, players simply need to make their picks and hope for the best during the race. And with the Kentucky Derby only lasting a couple of minutes, players will know the fate of their selections in just a matter of moments.
Kentucky Derby Odds Released
DraftKings’ Kentucky Derby pool comes on the heels of the post positions and odds for the Derby coming out on Tuesday. The favorite to win the Kentucky Derby, Essential Quality, drew the number 14 position and will run next to second favorite Rock Your World, which drew position number 15.
Essential Quality has the best odds to win the Kentucky Derby heading into the event at 2/1 odds. Rock Your World is next on that list at 5/1, while Known Agenda at 6/1 and Hot Rod Charlie at 8/1 are the only other horses with single digit odds to claim the first Triple Crown race of the year.
It should be noted here that the odds for these horses could change leading up to the start of the Kentucky Derby. But these odds serve as a good starting point for the expectations of each horse heading into the biggest race that many of them will ever run.
Will There Be a Triple Crown Winner?
The reason that the Kentucky Derby is as popular as it is would be the fact that a horse has to win it in order to have a chance at the Triple Crown. In a way, hope springs eternal when it comes to the Kentucky Derby each year. Heading into this year, though, it does not look like there is a horse seen as good enough to outperform the field to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes consecutively.
Sportsbooks that offer odds on whether or not there will be a Triple Crown winner in 2021 are listing there being no Triple Crown winner at around -1000 odds before the start of the Kentucky Derby. And with there not being a clear favorite at the top of the board before the Kentucky Derby, there is a chance that the Derby could feature a longshot winner that destroys all hope of a Triple Crown this year.
