Texas Longhorns vs. Davidson Wildcats Betting Picks

The 1-0 Texas Longhorns and 1-0 Davidson Wildcats will meet in the opening round of the Maui Invitational on Monday at 12:00 PM ET. The Longhorns opened their season up with a convincing 91-55 victory over UT Rio Grande. It wasn’t much of a test, but it was nice to see the offense put up 90+ points. They’re led by guards Courtney Ramey and Matt Coleman III, who can each put up 25 points on any given night. This offense plays through it’s guards and they have three different guys that can get hot.

Kai Jones and Greg Brown man the frontcourt and must step up against some dangerous Davidson forwards. It will likely be the matchup that decides who wins and loses this game. Both teams want to play fast and Texas must avoid falling into foul trouble down low. If they do, the Wildcats have the weapons to make them pay.

The Wildcats faced High Point University to start the season and didn’t look all that great. They won by just 11 points and looked disastrous defensively. Forward Hyungjung Lee posted 23 points, nine assists, and five rebounds to lead the way. He was joined by guard Kellan Grady, who posted 20 points, six boards, and four assists. They’re a versatile pair and Texas will inevitably struggle with them.

Carter Collins and Sam Mennenga were each in double-digits in the opener and Collins has the potential to be the team’s leading scorer. This is a team that does an excellent job of sharing the ball. They must play better defense against Texas as they will not be able to keep up with Ramey and co. if they allow open threes.

The Davidson Wildcats didn’t look great in their opener, but the offense did. They will tighten things up defensively as they face a real team and I was excited by what I saw in game one. Hyungjung Lee was dynamic down low and it looks like he will lead this team game in and game out. The Longhorns aren’t scary in the paint and I like Davidson to give them trouble. The Longhorns should pull out the victory, but it will be a close game. Give me Davidson to keep it close.

While both of these defense might come around later in the season, they were both terrible in the opener and both of these offenses will make them pay. Texas is an experienced team and the guards have excellent chemistry. Davidson is as well and neither of these teams are going to lay a stinker. I like the over in this game as my favorite overall bet.
