NHL Wednesday (8/26) night Parlay

We are back on track after a successful parlay last night and now we are aiming for another parlay win tonight. The second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs continue as New York Islanders take on Philadelphia Flyers in game 2 while Boston Bruins goes head to head with Tamba Bay Lightning for the second night in a row. This parlay is based on the presumption that rather few goals will be scored in both of these games.

Philadelphia Flyers were unable to hit the net in game 1 of the Eastern Conference second round as they were defeated 4-0 by the New York Islanders. It was a tight game between two defensively solid teams but, in contrast to the Islanders, the Flyers could not capitalize on the chances they produced.

New York Islanders followed up their 4-0 win against Washington Capitals by winning 4-0 again in game 1 of the second round to make it Semyon Varlamov’s second consecutive shutout. The Islanders have now won 6 out of their previous 7 games.

Conclusions and betting play: New York Islanders, the underdog of this series, proved in game 1 that they are to be taken seriously. It was a bit of a surprise that they were able to eliminate the Capitals 4-1 but they are a hard-working team with a great goalie and a solid defensive organization.

The Islanders have only conceded 9 goals in their previous 7 games and 0 in their previous 2 games. It is clear that the Flyers will have to fight hard to get their goals in this series and in that sense, these teams are quite similar.

5 goals or less have been scored 9 out of the Flyers 10 postseason games. The Philadelphia team also relies upon a strong defense and they have never scored more than 4 goals in any game of the postseason so far. In their previous 6 games, they have only scored 9 goals.

Less than 6.5 goals have been scored in 18 out of the 20 postseason games that these teams have played. All in all, we have strong reasons to believe that less than 6.5 goals will be scored also in this game.

Boston Bruins were defeated 4-3 in overtime last night and now they are up against the Lightning in game 3 tonight. The Bruins won the first game 3-2 and after two games played most things indicate that will be a long and very tight series.

Tamba Bay Lightning were defeated 3-2 in game 1 of the Eastern Conference second round against the Boston Bruins but were able to even the series in game 2. The Bruins tied the game late in the third period but the Lightning proved their mental strenght by, once again, winning an overtime game.

Conclusions and betting play: The Lightning were the slightly better team in game 2 and the Bruins were the slightly better team in game 1. In general, the Lightning are able to dominate the game in longer periods but the Bruins are a bit more efficient especially when it comes to special teams. All in all, it is very hard to predict the outcome of this series.

These are two defensively solid top-class hockey teams who rarely concede any easy goals. In that sense, it was a bit unusual that 7 goals were scored in game 2. Now they are playing for the second night in a row and, most likely, it will be another tight and physically exhausting game.

6 goals or less have been scored in 9 out of the Lightning’s 10 games during regulation time. 6 goals or less have been scored in 8 out of the Bruins’ 10 games during regulation time. Even though 6 goals were scored after three periods last night, their overall records still indicate that less than 6.5 goals will be scored.
