NHL Thursday (8/6) night Parlay

August 5, 2020

After seven successful parlays in a row, we are aiming for another one in this Thursday night NHL betting pick. I have chosen one game that I believe will be a bit more attacking-oriented and one game that I expect to become more tactical and tight.

Game 1: Columbus Blue Jackets – Toronto Maple Leafs

8.00 PM ET, Wednesday, August 6

Toronto Maple Leafs managed to shut out the Blue Jackets while winning 3-0 in game 2 to even this Stanley Cup qualification series. A solid performance by the favorites from Toronto where keeper Frederik Andersen (only) had to make 20 saves to secure this much important comeback in the series.

Leading players Auston Matthews and John Tavares both scored and helped their team reaching a level you could expect from this talented squad.

Columbus Blue Jackets have proved that they are to be taken seriously in this series. They won the first game 2-0 and overall they have stood up very well as a team and the Maple Leafs really have to work hard to create their chances.

The Blue Jackets can not compete with the offensive skills that their opponent possesses but they are definitely hard to beat. Joonas Korpisalo is playing on a top-level right now and it took the Maple Leafs four periods to score their first goal.

Conclusions and betting play: Columbus Blue Jackets have been closing down the Maple Leafs attacking play very well over two games. Toronto have to perform on top of their capacity or otherwise also this third game will be as difficult as the first one.

Only 5 goals have been scored in this series so far, both games have been tight and I find reasons to believe that it will continue like that. The Blue Jackets can only win if performing an extremely disciplined hockey and their ability to do so looks very reliable.

Betting Play: Total goals – Under 6.5 (60 Mins) @ -305

Game 2: Calgary Flames – Winnipeg Jets

10.30 PM ET, Thursday, August 6

Winnipeg Jets are forced to win this fourth game as they are down 2-1 after being defeated 6-2 in the third encounter of this best-of-five series. The Flames won game 1 4-1 while the Jets ended the series when winning game 2 3-2.

Overall the Flames have been the more efficient side so far but it is still a very open series between two, more or less, equally strong teams.

Calgary Flames scored three power-play goals and Cam Talbot made 34 saves and those two factors made the entire difference when the Jets were defeated 6-2 on Tuesday.

This game was a strong team effort by the Flames and, statistically, the likelihood of qualify from a best-of-five series when winning game 3 when a series is tied 1-1, is 75 percent.

Conclusions and betting play: Calgary Flames have been the more efficient team so far in this series and if winning game 4 they will be qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs. However, all three games have been quite open and both teams possess a lot of individual quality and still this series can go either way.

The pressure is on the Jets which means they will have to push forward even harder, especially if they are not in a lead in the third period. In that case, this game will open up even more.

5 goals were scored in game 1, 5 goals were scored in game 2, and 8 goals were scored in game 3 of this series. The results as well as the character of these games make me believe that at least 4 goals will be scored in game 4.
