When the Georgia Southern Eagles Have The Ball
Georgia Southern was missing 22 total players in week one and it almost cost them a game against FCS Campbell. The Fighting Camels drove the entire field and scored with just seconds left. They then
Starting RB Wesley Kennedy and WR’s Darion Anderson and Emil Smith were out due to contact tracing, along with 10 other starters and various backups.
They’ll be an entirely different team this time around, and we don’t necessarily know what to expect. Three offensive lineman were out, so we should get back to the usual pushy offensive line Georgia Southern leans on. Both of these teams are elite in the trenches, so it’ll likely be what determines the outcome of the game.
Senior QB Shai Werts does everything for this squad and he’s an extremely versatile dual-threat arm. While he will make his fair share of mistakes, he can also single-handedly move the sticks and keep the Eagles in the game. He’ll have his work cut out for him against a ULL offense that has been automatic through two weeks and won’t be easy to keep up with.
When The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns Have The Ball
The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns have showed us all just how weird college football is going to be this season. They went into Iowa State and upset the 23rd-ranked Iowa State Cyclones in week one before needing OT to hold off an upset of their own against Georgia State.
It wasn’t pretty, but the Ragin’ Cajuns stepped up when they needed to with 21 unanswered points in the second-half. Elijah Mitchell rushed for 170 yards and two scores while Levi Lewis threw two TD’s and two picks. They’ll now be tasked with beating a tough Georgia Southern team while trying to avoid looking forward to a massive game against Appalachian State next weekend.
The offense is a run-first attack that’s built around Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas. Both should see 15 carries in this game and they’ll be tasked with opening things up for Levi Lewis and the passing game. Mitchell will miss this game with contact tracing concerns, along with eight other players so far.
Louisiana-Lafayette needs to be better on defense. They gave up 200+ rushing yards to Georgia State and are facing another rushing attack this week. With that said, Georgia State barely beat FCS Campbell, so how good can they really be?
If ULL wants to cover this spread, they have to get off to a much quicker start than they did against Georgia State. Levi Lewis wasn’t good on third-downs and the offensive line didn’t get enough push. I’m expecting them to wake back up and perform like they did against ISU in week one.
Spread Prediction
This is one of the toughest games of the week to pick and Vegas hit this number on the head. The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns probably won’t look dynamite in the first half, but they’re going to wear Georgia Southern down and control the time of possession. They seemed to really find their rhythm late last week and RB Elijah Mitchell could be in for a huge day. Give the Ragin’ Cajuns, but I wouldn’t wager a whole lot on this one as these are two very hit-or-miss teams.

Total Prediction
The total is always tough when you have two teams that love to run the ball. Depending on the game script, this could very easily turn into either a shootout or an all-out brawl. I’m leaning towards a shootout as the Geo egg is Southern offense will look a lot different on the field than they do on film. ULL won’t have any problems scoring their own and this should end up close to 60.
