UFC Austin Picks & Promos
June 16, 2022
UFC Austin is a really high end card streaming live on ESPN+ and televised on ESPN and ESPN2. The card takes place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
The 14 fight card takes place on Saturday, June 18th, 2022. The first fighters will make the walk to the octagon at 4PM EST. You can stream the entirety of the card live on ESPN+. The prelims will also air on ESPN2. The main card will also air on ESPN.
The card features a main event in the featherweight division. There is no title on the line, but it is a high quality main event that is going to bring striking fireworks. The co-main event is a tribute to the old guard. Donald Cowboy Cerrone takes on Joe Lauzon in a rescheduled fight from UFC 274. We will have wagers on these fights along with three others on the card.

✅ Pick - Josh Emmett ITD +400 over Calvin Kattar
Josh Emmett and Calvin Kattar will bang it out for up to five rounds in the UFC Austin main event. Kattar will try to avoid the massive power of Emmett and win the volume battle. This is generally Kattar's style, but he does absorb a lot of strikes in the process. In fact, he is on the wrong end of most significant strikes absorbed ever in a fight in the UFC. Kattar will engage and will be tested by the power of Emmett. I do not believe Kattar will be able to hold up under that power over five rounds and we are getting a wonderful 4:1 return on that outcome.
✅ Pick - Donald Cerrone -170 over Joe Lauzon
This battle of the old guard sees Cerrone bringing a superior skill set at the current time. Perhaps if these two met many years ago anything could have happened, but the current fight is Cowboy's to lose. He is the better striker and has the superior wrestling game. The two are a bit even on the mat, but Cowboy spending any mat time in top control will allow him to take whichever rounds he does not win in the stand up.
✅ Pick - Kevin Holland ITD +175 over Tim Means
Kevin Holland has every advantage in this matchup. He is getting respect from the oddsmakers on the -275 flat line, but that does not carry over to the ITD line. +175 simply does not account for his finishing ability. He will be the rangier fighter against Means, who usually has that advantage. Holland will also be the quicker and more powerful striker. We will see Means get finished as he has every time the step up in competition presents itself.
✅ Pick - Damir Ismagulov -165 over Guram Kutateladze
Ismagulov is the fighter with multiple paths to victory, and will likely be in little danger throughout the fight. Ismagulov is a perfect 4-0 in the UFC and holds wins against superior fighters to Kutateladze. Ismagulov is very difficult to hit, and that will be a frustrating thing for his opponent. Even if the striking does not go in the direction of Ismagulov, which would be a surprise, he has his unsung wrestling game to fall back on. Ismagulov should have all bases covered at a favorable price.
✅ Pick - Gloria de Paula ITD +320 over Maria Oliveira
De Paula is just scratching the surface in terms of what she is capable of. The crisp striker had hiccups at the onset of her UFC tenure, but was able to right the ship with a win in her most recent fight. She now gets what I see as a step down in competition against a striker that is quite hittable. De Pauls is going to land stiff shots until Oliveira mentally breaks. De Paula may alsot for takedowns en route to a KO win. The +320 ITD price tag is a large value.
