I expect the Pelicans to keep this game close on the road. The Mavericks rise to elite status with Luka Doncic alone, but there isn’t much depth after him with the injuries this team is facing. On the Pelicans side, they’re fully healthy and starting to look a lot better in recent games. While each of their last three games are losses, they were by a combined 11 points and the Pelicans scored 110+ points in each of them.
The Pelicans have five different players averaging double-figures with two over 20. That’s opposed to just three total for the Mavericks when you consider injuries. The presence inside for both of these teams is weak and the squad more comfortable running the floor has a massive advantage. That’s why I like the Pelicans here. Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson are going to give the Mavericks trouble down low. Doncic will have his own fun on the perimeter, but he can only do so much with five Pelicans on the other side that can score it effectively.
