Dan Ige vs Gavin Tucker Predictions
11 March 2021
Dan Ige -145 vs Gavin Tucker
Fight is at 145 lbs and is +180 to end inside the distance.
Betting Play: Ige -145
If you are thinking to yourself that this fight with Dan Ige is quite a spike in competition for Gavin Tucker, you would be absolutely right. If you are also thinking this line is laughably not wide enough, you would again be absolutely right.
Tucker is on a three fight win streak, and has been able to finish worn down opponents in the third round of two of those fights. He earned a step up in competition, but I certainly did not see this level of jump for him.
Dan Ige is certainly not among the featherweight elite, but he is coming off competitive consecutive fights with Calvin Kattar and Edson Barboza. This is the type of competition that Tucker has not dreamed of facing.
I think this fight is competitive early on, but Ige will be the fighter that rises to the top later in the fight. Neither fighter brings real power and Ige is certainly the quicker striker.
He has truly developed that aspect of his game to complement his BJJ skill set that he entered the UFC with. While Tucker is very good on the mat and a decent wrestler as well, but I would deem Ige equal on the wrestling side and better on the BJJ side.
✅ The only true path to victory I see for Tucker would be a low IQ approach from Ige on the mat. Tucker would need Ige to accept takedowns and moreover, accept extended periods of bottom position, and while not impossible, I believe that to be a low percentage outcome.
✅ We will see Tucker levelling up a bit too much and having his win streak snapped, while we get a value figure on Ige of -145 in this UFC pick.
