BetMGM, Washington Nationals launch first retail sportsbook at Nationals Park

February 2, 2022

Through its relationship with the Washington Nationals, BetMGM has announced the launch of the first retail sportsbook adjacent to a Major League Baseball stadium.

The 4,000-square-foot facility, which replaces Center Field Social, has six betting windows, rows of betting kiosks, 40 TVs, and a complete bar and restaurant.

Although fans within the venue will not have access to the sportsbook, they will, however, be able to transact from their seats by using the BetMGM app starting the 2022 season.

BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt commented:

"We're constantly pushing the boundaries to deliver sports fans unique experiences, and that's just what we've done with the new BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park.”

Greenblatt went on to say that the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia region is β€œa great look into how we're seeking to expand the BetMGM platform with a variety of unique experiences for our customers” as users can utilize the BetMGM mobile app anywhere in Virginia, visit the newly opened retail sportsbook at MGM National Harbor in Maryland, and now in D.C.

Unique betting experiences for users

"Whether fans are attending baseball games or looking for a place to watch any sporting event, the BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park is bound to be one of the most engaging sports viewing environments in the District,” he added.

Additionally, users can access the first sportsbook connected to a Major League Baseball stadium. β€œWe've established great partnerships that allow us to bring these one-of-a-kind touchpoints to the DMV,” Greenblatt concluded.

Meanwhile, Lerner Sports COO Alan Gottlieb remarked: β€œThe BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park represents the newest way in which we are providing our fans with the best experiences in sports and entertainment,”

β€œUpon its opening, the sportsbook immediately becomes one of the neighborhood's premier venues for both the savvy bettor and casual fan to watch the top events in an upscale and electric atmosphere.”

The Nationals are following in the footsteps of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, whose Capital One Arena became the first in the United States to share space with a licensed betting site when William Hill's sportsbook debuted in May.

Audi Field, D.C. United's home stadium, has an arrangement with FanDuel to build a sportsbook as well, though its launch has been postponed.

Sports betting growth

Since the Supreme Court lifted a federal ban on commercial sports betting outside of specific locations such as Las Vegas in 2018, the sports gambling sector has experienced this sort of growth all over the country.

For instance, Virginia has already authorized mobile sports betting across the state, and politicians have considered the idea of a sportsbook linked to the Washington Football Team's next stadium, should the team relocate to the Commonwealth once its contract with FedEx Field comes to an end in 2027.

The BetMGM Sportsbook will also work in tandem with the BetMGM app, which is already available in Washington, D.C. Within a two-block radius of Nationals Park, users can place mobile wagers.

BetMGM is the result of a collaboration between MGM Resorts International and Entain (previously GVC Holdings), and it has exclusive exposure to all of MGM's land-based and online sports betting, big tournament poker, and online gaming operations in the United States.

BetMGM offers sports betting and online gaming through market-leading brands such as BetMGM, Borgata Casino, Party Casino, and Party Poker, all of which are powered by Entain's US-licensed cutting-edge technology.
